Board of Education News: Programs That Make a Difference
At the October 29, 2009 meeting, the “Coventry Pride” section featured the recognition of Coventry students participating in “Science Investigation Projects K-12.”
Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Donna Bernard introduced Coventry Grammar School teachers Mrs. Christy Rau and Mrs. Nancy Plaster and students Nathaniel Hayes and Carson Gaines. Mrs. Rau reviewed, with Nathaniel’s assistance, the science project of investigating shadows and light. Mrs. Plaster and Carson talked about the soil project their class has been working on.
G.H. Robertson teachers Mrs. Lynne Steeves and Mrs. Katherine Sandberg and students Meghan Blanchard and Zachary Stone, showed a PowerPoint presentation about the subject they’ve been studying; moon phases.
The Capt. Nathan Hale principal, Mrs. Michele Mullaly and students Carly Futoma and Patrick Walker, reviewed a gizmo program on the explorelearning.com website. Specifically they spoke to plant germination.
Coventry High School teacher Mr. Timothy Dillon talked about the AP science course and introduced CHS AP student Megan Hulsart. Megan reviewed the AP course and the tasks they have been working on; identifying invasive plants in Coventry. Mr. Dillon explained the goals and curriculum of the course, which would actually take place over several years.
