Board of Education News: Programs That Make a Difference
At the January 26, 2006 meeting, the “Program Highlights” section focused on Technology Improvements. It is critical we prepare students for a technology-driven world. District-wide efforts include upgrading our internet capabilities, upgrading our student information system, increased professional development, and enhancements to the Coventry Public Schools website. The media retrieval and library access systems have been automated, and the computer lab at GHR has been completed. A School Technology Committee has been created to provide regular direction and input from classroom teachers in developing technology. The “Virtual High School” pilot program has been launched where students can take advanced courses on-line, and two new technology courses have been added to accommodate for students’ increased interest in this area. The Coventry Public Schools Assistive Technology Team (CPSATT) continues to make technological decisions based on the reasonable educational benefit for each special education child. These improvements serve to enhance the educational experience for Coventry students.
