Hi! My name is Susan Beeching. I have been at C.G.S. since 1984. After a long, varied career in education I find second grade the most rewarding environment of all. My students never cease to amaze me with their enthusiasm for learning. It’s a joy to watch them become confident readers and writers, not to mention mathematicians. I truly appreciate all the parent support in Coventry. Volunteers are always welcome in my classroom. My husband, Steve, comes in to teach the history of art through hands-on projects and does some woodworking with the children each year.
My own elementary school was Academy Hill on Nantucket Island where my first grade class had 38 students. Fortunately, smaller class sizes at C.G.S. allow us to better meet the needs of our students. Before moving to Connecticut, I earned a B. S. degree in psychology from the University of New Mexico, a Master’s degree in special education from Lesley College and a Master’s degree in counseling from Bridgewater State College. I taught elementary and high school self-contained special education classes in the Boston area for ten years, as well as an adult reading course at a community college. At C.G.S. I started as a third/fourth grade special education teacher before moving to second grade.
In my “spare time” I run The Tolland Inn Bed and Breakfast where my students help out as waiters and waitresses. I also enjoy many dance classes including tap and cardio Latina.
