BIOLOGY EXPECTATIONS

Introduction

 Biology is a laboratory curse required for graduation. The class meets four periods per week as shown in our new schedule. This is an introductory course designed to touch upon the many topics and concepts in Biology as described in the Connecticut Science Curriculum. We will be exploring the underlying principles of Biology that will help you through out your life regardless of your career goals

Your grades for this course are determined by the following;

50% is tests, quizzes, reports, projects.

50% is out of class work and broken down as:

    35% lab reports

     15% homework and other assignments.

Grades are published on line at mygradebook.com. You will be given the class name and use your school ID as your password.

HOMEWORK:

The purpose of out of class work is to supplement and reinforce what has been discussed or done in class. Complete sentences with proper grammar and spelling are expected. Unless you have a medical excuse or IEP program, homework is accepted only on the date it is due. You maximize your grade by doing the assignment and submitting it on the day it is due.

Labs.

While General Biology does not have a separate lab period in the schedule, we will be doing labs as a part of this course. Lab safety is a must.

  • you must wear closed toed shoes in lab
  • you must wear safety equipment as described for the type of lab being done.
  • Precautions with all equipment and chemicals is required.
  • Working in a safe manner is mandatory.

NOTEBOOKS;

          Note taking is a personal tool for learning. You must have a biology notebook. Notes will be collected periodically and graded. They will be a part of the out of class assignments or may even be notes given in class. I will be using the notes as a diagnostic of your understanding and participation in this course.

I will not be collecting the notebook as one grade.

CLASS PARTICIPATION;

 Your participation in class is expected to be positive and contribute to the learning environment. Treating others with respect earns you respect.

Treating others courteously earns the same in return.

ATTENDANCE;

If you must be absent for whatever reason, it is your responsibility to make up your work within three school days unless a doctor’s note is submitted.
