The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students.  NHS strives to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character.

Admission to NHS is an honor given to students. It is not a right and is not something that can be earned. It is intended to be an award to recognize the combination of outstanding scholarship, character, leadership, and service exhibited by a student. In fact, by National norms, students are not supposed to solicit or ambition membership. Neither students, faculty members, nor parents are permitted to take the initiative by lobbying for the admission of a particular student. Those who qualify will be considered, and those elected will be "tapped" for membership. The ideal is that students study to learn and do service to help others rather than study for grades or do service simply to gain admission to the Honor Society.

The NHS will be continuing our efforts to raise money for the American Cancer Society by participating in the Relay for Life event for the Greater Windham Area being held at Eastern CT State University on June 2 & 3 in 2012. We have our own Coventry High School team that will be doing various things throughout the year to raise money and awareness leading up to the Relay in June. We are always looking for people to join our team, and you can email us if interested at coventryNHS@gmail.com, or go to our Relay team page at coventryNHS.info.

Halloween Walk for Hurlock: Sunday, November 6, 2011

NHS members held a charity walk at Creaser Park in Coventry to raise money for the American Cancer Society in memory of late teacher and coach Matt Hurlock. Many students, families, and community members came out to support the cause, with some people even sporting costumes in the Halloween spirit! Overall, the event raised more than $2600 for the Cancer Society!
