What happens if I get an "Incomplete" on my Portfolio 3rd quarter?

--After receiving an INCOMPLETE, report to the Portfolio Enrichment if you'd like to revise your portfolio.

The INCOMPLETE grade is important data for future reference, and will show whether your portfolio has been on track for 4 years.

NOTE:  If you are a SENIOR expecting to GRADUATE, you MUST ATTEND E-PORTFOLIO OPEN HOUSE, and present your portfolio.  If you attended and received an INCOMPLETE, you follow the protocol in blue above.  If you DID NOT attend the OPEN HOUSE, then you MUST SCHEDULE AN AFTER-SCHOOL formal presentation to 5 Staff Members   COMPLETE THIS FORM  and return as instructed. Forms available in the main office as well.   TOP

What's a multimedia electronic format?

The portfolio may not be a collection of documents stored in folders on the computer.  The portfolio MUST be organized by a single file, program, website, or other computer form that allows you to 1) display and/ or make hyperlinks (clickable links) to your work 2) Display and/ or make links to your explanations of how your work relates to "Patriot Pride" expectations, and 3) Display and/ or make links to your resumé, personal introduction, etc.

Some formats students have used are:

           - website

           - wiki or blog

           - hyperlinked documents (PowerPoint or other document with links), etc.

              - Another format--a documentary about you, a carefully produced video.

           - See also: How do I get started on using a free website or blog?

IMPORTANT:  Your files need to work on any computer. (Need to be open-able using Microsoft Office and the programs on our computer. If it's a program that they only have in a CAD lab, try making a screen shot (picture- CTRL+ PRINTSCRN) and pasting into "paint" or "photoshop" and saving as an image. This was you can display samples of your work and reflect upon the work as a whole in your reflections. If you know how to save as a PDF, that works best on websites (the new labs at CHS let  you do it from Word). You can also put text right into your webpage. You shouldn't need to "provide" the files for your portfolio on portfolio night with a Flash drive--Plan Ahead.

Why do I have to do this?

--Because 1) The Association that validates our Diploma required an improved e-portfolio 2) It's a graduation requirement 3) It's to help prepare you to become competitive in a rapidly changing and technological world

Once I submit work, am I "stuck" with that type of project or assignment?

Student:  "My homeroom teacher told me I'm “stuck” having to do the same thing for the rest of my high school portfolio career.  Meaning, if I submit an English essay as my submission for this year then I must continue only submitting English essay each year until I graduate.  IS THIS TRUE?

NO! NO! NO!  The Freshman (Sophomore and Junior) portfolio is a practice run for the WAY to make an e-portfolio.  NOTHING is set in stone!

Why do I have to do a portfolio each year?

--The portfolio starts "small" Freshman year to get you the hang of having a "Focus" or "Theme" of your portfolio, including a project that connects to that theme as well as a few of the "Mission Statement" objectives.  Every year you can expand upon that theme, and put in superior work...  or you can change the theme and start from scratch...  The point is for you to have the chance to create the big Senior E-Portfolio in stages, not all at once!

I'm a Freshman / Junior - why did I get an Incomplete if I did my portfolio?

If you submitted a URL, then the reason is that you did not have enough reflections, not enough projects, were missing other required parts, or the URL didn't work. A committe of teachers viewed your portfolio and made the decision on the day of Senior Portfolio Open House in a separate computer lab. No single teacher made the determination. Report to Portfolio Enrichment ASAP if you have a question.

Are there more rubrics coming out for each class?

--No. The role of the teacher is looking at the self assessment (itself a “rubric” in a sense) filled out by the student. The bottom line until e-portfolio fair: 1) Find a theme or focus for your portfolio 2) Select work that connects to the mission/expectations 3) try to package it in an integrated, multimedia way

What's the theme or focus?  Does it lock me in?

You may pick an area of interest Freshman year that you decide to drop Sophomore year.  You might have a theme for 3 years then change it for Senior year.  But remember, whatever your focus is, you have to connect it to all 11 school-wide expectations.  That means you'll still be working across the disciplines instead of prepping for one specific career path.  We want you to have practice identifying a career path and "showing yourself off."  In the future, you'll apply that practice to whatever other career path you may choose later.

What's Patriot Pride?  Do we use that or the expectations after the Mission Statement?
They are the same thing.  Patriot Pride is a device for remembering the expectations.   One of the expectations was broken up into two.  You must connect to 11 expectations, whether you refer to them as Patriot Pride or Schoolwide Expectations

SCHOOL TUBE

You can post video of your work on schooltube.com.  So far Mr. Smith and Mr. Baumgartner are the teachers who may "approve" or disapprove a video, so see them if you've uploaded a video to schooltube, and are still unable to see it on SchoolTube.

WHAT'S A HYPERLINK?

A hyperlink is what you click on when you're on a website and you go to a different page.  Or when you click on a "LINK" and download a file.  You can do this in Word and PowerPoint by going to "Insert" and selecting the file you want to open when the person clicks the link.

Did you know that in Word, you can "SAVE AS WEB PAGE" ?  This means that the new file it creates will look like a page in Internet Explorer even though you might have just saved it in the school's network (your folder).  You can do the same thing with PowerPoint.

I've found that you lose the style/format of the page when you save as a web page, but a solution is making tables in the place of columns.

WORD 2007

If you have a new computer or worked with the computers in the Writing Lab, you must have noticed that Microsoft Word looks diffrent (as does the rest of Microsoft office).  It's the new version 2007.  The PROBLEM:  if you save normally, your file CAN'T BE OPENED on any computer without the lates version (2007).  The rest of the computers in the school (and all the laptops used for the Open House Portfolio display) have the 2000 or 2003 version.  It's EASY to make all of your portfolios OPEN-ABLE on any computer:  Just do SAVE AS and select the COMPATABILITY MODE ("Word 2000/2003").
