Initiative Achievement

The Coventry Public Schools Educator and Leader Evaluation Plan was developed in alignment with the Connecticut Guidelines for Educator and Leader Evaluation and Support (2023). The plan was created through collaboration among the Professional Development and Teacher Evaluation Committee, members of the Education Association of Coventry (EAC), and district leadership. It was subsequently approved by both the Board of Education (BOE) and the Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE), ensuring compliance with State standards while addressing local educational priorities.

A key component of the plan involved redesigning the platform used for educator evaluations. The updated platform, which was completed in the summer of 2024, features enhanced functionality, streamlined processes, and tools designed to provide more effective and actionable feedback for both educators and evaluators. This redesign aims to improve the evaluation experience by offering a system that supports professional growth and development.

In September 2024, the new evaluation plan and platform were thoroughly reviewed with all certified staff. This review session ensured that educators were fully informed about the changes and how the new system would impact their professional development. By involving educators in the review process, the district promoted transparency and collaboration, ensuring that all staff members were aligned with the district’s goals for teacher evaluation and growth. This implementation of the new evaluation plan strengthens the district’s commitment to fostering continuous improvement and supporting educators in delivering high-quality instruction.

Last, I want to stress how rare it is that various groups can come together on what one might call a challenging topic, yet work in a highly collaborative manner all while maintaining a strong and consistent professional environment.  Coventry does many things well, but most would agree working together as a team is something we do extremely well, which in many places is rare.
