Initiative Achievement
Coventry Public Schools continues to support and recruit Open Choice students, a program designed to reduce racial, ethnic, and economic isolation while improving academic achievement. Through this initiative, Hartford students have the opportunity to attend schools in Coventry, and the district has committed to providing additional seats for Open Choice students. Specifically, Coventry Grammar School has designated five additional seats for the 2025-2026 school year.
Throughout the year, Coventry has made significant efforts to support Open Choice students and engage their families. These include monthly VIP lunches, Open Houses, a fall 5K/Fun Run, Student-Led Conferences, and classroom volunteer opportunities. These events help families feel connected and involved in the school community.
To attract more students to Coventry, the district has created marketing materials for the School Choice Directory, hosted an Engaging Dad’s Open Choice event in January, and organized a Spring Open Choice District Training. Additionally, the district is working with technology staff to develop an Open Choice section on the district website, which will provide valuable resources and quick links for Open Choice families. Monthly liaison meetings ensure that ongoing communication and support are in place to meet the needs of these students and families.
