Initiative Achievement

The evaluation and projection committee engaged in a comprehensive and deliberate process to evaluate current and future facility needs, with a particular focus on developing an educational space for Grades PreK-5. The Evaluation and Projection Committee led this work through a series of meetings, site visits, and data reviews to inform long-range planning and identify potential next steps.

The process included a review of the district’s Facilities Visioning 2033 work, as well as site visits to neighboring districts to observe elementary school facilities and programming, including Mansfield Elementary School and Birch Grove Primary School in Tolland. Throughout the spring and summer of 2025, the committee met regularly to reflect on findings, review updated facilities data, and refine its recommendations.

As a result of this work, the committee presented its findings to the full Board of Education. At its January 8, 2026 meeting, the Board took formal action to advance this effort by approving a motion to request that the Town Council establish a School Building Committee. Following this vote, the Superintendent, on behalf of the Board, formally requested that the Town Council appoint a School Building Committee to support the planned program of increasing educational space, with a focus on PreK-5, and to include Board of Education representation.

If approved by the Town Council, the formation of a School Building Committee represents a critical next step in advancing this work, allowing for a structured and collaborative approach to evaluating facility needs, engaging stakeholders, and developing thoughtful, fiscally responsible solutions aligned with the educational priorities of the district and the community.
