Initiative Achievement

The district continues to expand enrichment opportunities both during and beyond the school day, providing students with additional avenues to explore personal interests, deepen learning, and develop important social and creative skills.

At the Coventry Grammar School (CGS), the school has prioritized increasing access to enrichment programming with a focus on equity and student engagement. During the school day, students participated in special learning experiences including a UConn Husky Author visit that promoted literacy and enthusiasm for reading and writing. In partnership with the Parent Teachers Organization (PTO), CGS hosted Brain Break Academy, which provided high energy activities focused on wellness and creativity and welcomed Ivy the Very Determined Dog through a collaboration with a local nonprofit organization. CGS also partnered with Coventry’s Youth and Family Services to launch the Buddy Readers program, bringing community members and senior citizens into classrooms each month to read with students and strengthen community connections. Beyond the school day, CGS expanded after school offerings, introducing clubs such as Slime Club and Mad Science.

At the G.H. Robertson School (GHR), students have access to more enrichment opportunities than ever before, both during and after school. After school clubs reflect a wide range of student interests and include Multi-Sport, Taylor Swift Club, Cheerleading, Dungeons and Dragons, Ballroom Dancing, Honors Choir, Breakfast Book Club, Ski Club, and Outing Club. Due to strong student interest, the Mad Science program is offered in both winter and spring sessions. During the school day, students participate in enrichment activities such as Invention Convention, Math Maniacs, Student Council, Gardening Club, CT Kid Governor, and Tech Wizards. In partnership with the PTO, GHR also hosted a STEAM assembly featuring twelve interactive stations where students explored robotics, virtual reality, 3D printing, art, engineering, electricity, and magnetism through hands-on learning experiences.

At the Capt. Nathan Hale School students have benefited from extracurricular opportunities that promote creativity, collaboration, and real-world skills. Clubs such as Cooking Club, 3D Printing Club, and Social Drawing Club have been particularly successful. Through community partnerships, the Cooking Club strengthens farm to school connections by teaching students how to prepare nutritious meals using local ingredients. The 3D Printing Club allows students to design and create original projects while collaborating with high school mentors, and the Social Drawing Club provides a welcoming environment for students to build friendships through shared artistic interests.

District-wide opportunities such as Science Olympiad teams at CNH and CHS, the Invention Convention at GHR, and summer Curiosity Clubs further extend learning beyond the classroom, allowing students to explore areas of passion and develop skills in problem solving, creativity, and collaboration.

Collectively, these initiatives reflect the district’s commitment to expanding meaningful enrichment opportunities that support student curiosity, engagement, and well-rounded development.
