Initiative Achievement

hydroponic planting stations within greenhouse

With the support of the Board of Education a new greenhouse was purchased which replaced the failing geodesic dome at the high school. The Facilities Department installed the new greenhouse in the science courtyard this fall, which is where the geodesic dome was located. The greenhouse became fully operational on January 13, 2026, with water and heating systems in place, and students began planting on January 20.

The greenhouse will support hands-on learning in science courses, allowing students to study plant growth patterns by experimenting with different nutrients and watering conditions. Students will grow a variety of flowers, vegetables, and fish as part of their coursework, providing authentic opportunities to apply scientific inquiry and data analysis.

In addition to its instructional benefits, the greenhouse will continue to support collaboration with the district’s Food Services Department, with fresh vegetables being provided to the school cafeteria when available. This initiative strengthens connections between classroom learning, sustainability, and the school community.
