2024 FPS State Competition

Paula Sandahl

The Future Problem Solving Program of Connecticut (FPSP of CT) hosted their State Competition on March 23, 2024 at North Haven High School. FPSP of CT teaches students how to think, not what to think.

The Capt. Nathan Hale School (CNH) teams of Future Problem Solvers studied the topic “Autonomous Vehicles” for two months prior in preparation for the state conference. Several CNH teams placed in the top three in the state in different categories.

•  Scenario Writing (independent writing): In the Senior Division (10th-12th grade), Charles Dunlap was awarded State Champion and invited to Internationals! In the Middle Division (7th and 8th grade), Robert DeCarlo placed 3rd.

•  Team Skit Performances (only Global Issues Problem Solving booklet results earn a bid to internationals): In the Middle Division (7th and 8th grade), State Champion #1 Best Performance was awarded to Charlotte Parkington, Danielle Wheeler, Mia Belsito, and Celia March. In the Junior Division (6th grade), Lillian Pascino, Faith Bingaman, and Taylor Wirzbicki placed 3rd. In “Zippy Junior” booklet writing (6th grade), Lou Broderick, Emmett Henderling, Damian Gallagher, and Ronan Almeida placed 3rd.

•  Global Issues Problem Solving (booklets): In the Middle Division (7th and 8th grade), Charlotte Parkington, Danielle Wheeler, Mia Belsito, and Celia March placed 3rd. CNH sincerely thanks all the parent volunteers and staff for their support!
