A Note from Mrs. Hammer
Safety at Arrival/Dismissal
As we welcome these warmer, sunny days, it has been so nice to see families connecting and spending time together before and after school ☀️ We truly value the sense of community this builds for our students and families.
At the same time, we want to take a moment to reinforce a few important safety expectations during arrival and dismissal to ensure all students remain safe during our busiest times of day.
Morning Arrival 🚗
- Families should park and walk their child to the Main Entrance.
- Students should not be walking through the parking lot or across traffic areas without an adult.
During Arrival and Dismissal ⏰
We have recently noticed some students playing in the front areas, including sidewalks, grassy spaces, benches, and garden beds. This has included throwing rocks, climbing on/running across benches, and running near active traffic areas where vans and cars are loading and unloading.
These spaces are active traffic zones, and for safety reasons, they are not safe for play or unsupervised student activity.
Afternoon Dismissal 🌳
We absolutely welcome the opportunity for families to connect at the end of the day. To help keep everyone safe:
- Once you have picked up your child, please move to the playground if you plan to stay and socialize.
- The front sidewalks, grassy areas, and garden/rock spaces should not be used for play during dismissal.
Our parking lot and front entrance areas are especially busy during arrival and dismissal, and it is essential that students remain closely supervised and out of traffic pathways at all times.
Thank you for your partnership in helping us keep all of our students safe while still fostering the strong sense of community that makes our school so special 💚💛💚
Please Don’t Forget To…
Complete the CGS end-of-year climate survey to help us inform our work. Our school is committed to creating a friendly and supportive learning environment, and this survey will help us identify areas to improve. These surveys are anonymous. We greatly appreciate your time in completing the survey. The survey will be open from Monday, March 23 through Friday, April 3.
- The code to access the Parent/Guardian survey is: COV287
When sending an email communication to me, please also include Mrs. Morrison (kmorrison@coventryct.org).

Ask Me About...
Below you’ll find 2-3 questions from your child’s grade-level team and specials’ teachers that connect directly to what they’ve been learning; both in academics, related arts, and in social-emotional learning lessons. These are great conversation starters to help your child share, reflect on their day/week, and celebrate their learning with you.
Ask your KINDERGARTNER…
- Our trick words are “she”, “he” and “we”. What makes them tricky? Sing the songs!
- What is something you are really good at in school? What is something at school that you feel not-so-sure about? Talk about ways to set a goal!
- Mrs. Watson the leprechaun has 5 pieces of gold. She dropped 2 pieces near the rainbow. How many does she have left?
Ask your 1st GRADER…
- What is something you got better at this year that you were excited to share at your conference?
- How do you spell this week’s trick words: how, now, and down? What sound do the letters “ow” make?
- Can you show me a ‘big double’ like 6 + 6 or 7 + 7? How did you figure out the answer, and what do you notice about doubles?
Ask your 2nd GRADER…
- What are you most proud about from your student led conference?
- How would you solve 234 - 172?
- What are two character traits to describe Martin Luther King Jr.?
