Parent Input on Class Placement

As shared in a communication earlier this week, we invite families to share their  environmental requests to indicate the type of classroom environment they would like their child to be placed in (not specific teacher names) in order to be most successful. This input is just one piece of data we consider in the scope of everything else.

Any input must be shared via the  electronic form available in the PowerSchool Parent Portal. This form is open now and will  open through May 11th. Once the form closes, parent input will not be accepted.

See below for directions on how to access the form. If you have multiple children you’d like to share input for, a form should be submitted for each child.

*More information about sharing input for an incoming Kindergarten student will be shared at Kindergarten Orientation in early May.

To access the form in your PowerSchool Parent Portal:

  1. Sign into your PowerSchool parent account
  2. Select your student (you will need to complete a form for each child K-4)
  3. On the left menu, select the “Forms” icon
  4. Click on the form titled “Class Placement Parent Input Form for the 2026-2027 School Year”
  5. Complete and submit the form
  6. Repeat if desired for each child K-4

LAST DAY TO…

Complete the CGS end-of-year climate survey to help us inform our work. Our school is committed to creating a friendly and supportive learning environment, and this survey will help us identify areas to improve. These surveys are anonymous. We greatly appreciate your time in completing the survey.  The survey will be open from Monday, March 23 through Friday, April 3.

  • The code to access the Parent/Guardian survey is: COV287

When sending an email communication to me, please also include Mrs. Morrison (kmorrison@coventryct.org).

A Peek Inside Our Week

See photos of some of the special moments we shared this week.

Highlights include: music with Ms. Bezanson, Lego coding with Mr. Kyer, and some March self-portraits.

And be sure to check out our newest High Tide Heroes! We had the privilege of recognizing a lot of role model students this week.

April Lunch Wave Volunteering

Welcoming family members into our building to support students during one of the busiest and happiest parts of the day, LUNCH, has truly been a highlight of the school year for both staff and students!

With three full and lively lunch waves each day, your presence makes a meaningful difference. Having extra hands and caring adults helps create a calm, safe, and joyful space where students can enjoy their time, get the support they need, and transition smoothly to recess.

We would love to have even more family members join in the fun! If you are interested in volunteering in this role, check out the link for more information. You’ll also need to complete our CGS volunteer form before clicking the link below to sign-up for a time.

The April schedule has just been released and will be updated on a monthly basis!

Superintendent's Presentation of District Goals & Initiatives

Last Thursday evening, our Superintendent shared an engaging and comprehensive update with the Board of Education, highlighting the meaningful progress our schools and district are making toward this year’s strategic goals and priorities. From strengthening high-quality instruction and expanding student supports to enhancing school climate and innovation, the presentation reflected a clear commitment to continuous improvement and student success across Coventry Public Schools.

One of the most exciting takeaways is how accessible this work is to our community. Families and community members are encouraged to explore the district's Strategic Plan webpage, which offers an incredibly comprehensive look at each major initiative. The site allows users to dig into specific focus areas, view detailed action steps, and access supporting resources, presentations, and artifacts that truly bring this work to life.

We are proud of the thoughtful, transparent approach our district is taking and invite you to take a closer look at the exciting work underway to support every learner’s growth and success.

There’s even a  short video that shows families how to navigate the website!

Ask Me About...

Below you’ll find 2-3 questions from your child’s grade-level team and specials’ teachers that connect directly to what they’ve been learning; both in academics, related arts,  and in social-emotional learning lessons. These are great conversation starters to help your child share, reflect on their day/week, and celebrate their learning with you.

Ask your KINDERGARTNER…

  • This week our kindergarteners wrote about their memories.  Take some time as a family to share your happy memories together.
  • How is your life the same, or different, from Cynthia Rylant’s life in When We Were Young in the Mountains?
  • Mrs. Emerson saw 5 clouds in the sky. 2 clouds drifted away. How many are left?

Ask your 1st GRADER…

  • What did you do this week to be safe, responsible, or respectful-and did you earn any Flip, Flip Hurray cards for it? Which prize are you most excited or motivated to win in the raffle?
  • What is Feel The Wind mostly about? What do you know about wind?
  • What strategy would you use to solve the addition sentence 19+5?

Ask your 2nd GRADER…

  • How many different 2D shapes can you find around your house?
  • How do you spell road and rode? What is the difference? Mark each.
  • If you were to give a speech, what would you advocate for?
