CGS’s Mid-Year Update: Progress Toward Our Shared Goals & Initiatives

As we move through the middle of the school year, I am excited to share a brief mid year progress update with our Coventry Grammar School community. In October, I shared our schoolwide goals aligned to district priorities, with a focus on three key areas: literacy growth, math fact fluency, and whole child development.

Since then, our students and staff have made meaningful progress and there is so much to celebrate. Across classrooms, students are building strong literacy habits through Wit & Wisdom, expanding their vocabulary and content knowledge, and showing growth as readers and writers. In math, our students are strengthening number sense and working hard to improve subtraction fact fluency in developmentally appropriate ways.

We are also proud of the progress happening beyond academics. Our school community continues to grow in positive ways through PBIS, strong classroom routines, and a shared commitment to kindness and belonging. In addition, we continue to focus on strong daily attendance, because being present every day makes a tremendous difference in student learning and confidence.

I encourage you to take a few minutes to view the slideshow, which highlights our progress and celebrations so far. Families play an essential role in this work, and your partnership, encouragement, and support at home truly strengthens everything we do at school.

Thank you for being such an important part of our success. I can’t wait to see what we accomplish in the second half of the year!

A Peek Inside Our Week

See photos of some of the special moments we shared this week.

Highlights include: Cafeteria candids, indoor recess fun, and “turtle tag” in PE.

And be sure to check out the High Tide Heroes we celebrated this week! We had the privilege of recognizing a lot of role model students!

Ask Me About...

Below you’ll find 2-3 questions from your child’s grade-level team and specials’ teachers that connect directly to what they’ve been learning; both in academics, related arts,  and in social-emotional learning lessons. These are great conversation starters to help your child share, reflect on their day/week, and celebrate their learning with you.

Ask your KINDERGARTNER…

  • Tell about the painter Grant Wood and how he became famous for his painting American Gothic.
  • To count to 100 by ones! Count to 100 by tens!
  • What is something you are really proud of this week?

Ask your 1st GRADER…

  • How do seahorses use their unique features?
  • Who is Ruby Bridges?
  • What is the difference between a digraph and a blend?
  • Why is it important to line up the ends when measuring objects?

Ask your 2nd GRADER…

  • How are different landforms made?
  • What are some challenges that the pioneers faced when moving west?
  • Count a pile of money? How much do you have? Is it more or less than $1.00?
