A Note from Mrs. Hammer

On Tuesday, we kicked off the school year with our very first assembly — a PBIS “Pep Rally”! PBIS stands for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports. It’s one of the main ways we help create a safe, positive, and welcoming learning environment for all of our students.

At Coventry Grammar School, PBIS teaches students how to be SAFE, RESPONSIBLE, and RESPECTFUL in every part of our school. These three expectations are the foundation for how we support students in becoming kind, caring, and productive members of our school community.

During the assembly, students were introduced to our core expectations. In addition, they also learned about our “Flip, Flip, Hooray Cards” and PBIS raffles, which are fun ways we celebrate and reinforce students when they are showing these expected behaviors.

You’ll hear more about PBIS from your child’s teachers (as they’ll be explicitly teaching and modeling what these behaviors look like across all settings of school), at our upcoming Open House and throughout the year. For now, we encourage you to check out the slideshow below so you can review our expectations with your child at home. Using the same shared language will help remind students of how they can be their “best selves” each and every day at school.

CGS PTO News & Events

  • Mum fundraiser will continue, if you didn't receive a flyer reach out to the office or email the PTO and they will make sure you receive a copy.

  • Boxtops for Education: If you don't want to download the app, send in receipts from your grocery shopping with your child and volunteers will scan them for you. This will earn the school money! If you download the app, and use code S9FA7HLC when signing up, CGS will get an extra $10 from each person who scans their first receipt.

  • We’re excited to invite you to be part of our Coventry Elementary Student/Parent Directory! This *optional* directory makes it easier for families to connect with one another for playdates, homework help, birthday parties, carpooling, and building our wonderful school community. Participation is completely optional, and only families who sign up will have their information shared in the directory. Thank you for helping us strengthen connections between students and families. We hope you’ll join! If you’d like to be included, please complete the Google Form. As a reminder…the school itself cannot provide this information.

  • Sign up to help with our school mascot. Students LOVE being greeted by Flippy!

  • PTO Records of Agendas and Minutes are always available online. In addition, for this school year we are making a recording of the PTO meeting available for those that are not able to join our livestream or attend in person - the video from this week’s meeting.

  • CGS is looking for donations toward the PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention & Supports) raffles! The links are Amazon Affiliate links for the CGS PTO - it doesn't change the price of the item, but a small portion of each purchase is donated to the school along with anything else in your cart. Interested in donating?! Check out Sign-Up Genius!

A Message from Nurse Dunnack

As a reminder, please send your student to school with a spare set of clothes (labeled, if possible) in case of accidents or spills. The nurse’s office has only a limited supply available.

We also ask that you take a moment to complete the Annual Health Information Form and the Annual Health Permissions Form in PowerSchool. This ensures that the Health Office has the most up-to-date information for your student and the permissions needed to administer medications such as Tylenol or Benadryl if necessary, during the school year.

Thank you for helping us keep your students safe, comfortable, and cared for!

Dismissal Time

Thank you all for your continued attention to our dismissal procedures, especially during this busy time in the parking lot when student safety is our top priority.

As an important reminder, our afternoon dismissal begins at 3:10, which is the official end of our instructional day. With the addition of our new literacy curriculum, our master schedule is especially tight this year, and every minute of instructional time matters.

If you ever have an appointment or after-school commitment that requires an earlier dismissal, please enter that information into Pick-Up Patrol so we can plan accordingly.

We're Hiring!

Coventry Public Schools and Coventry Grammar School are excited to share that we still have a couple of paraeducator positions we’re looking to fill!

This is a wonderful opportunity for someone who wants to make a difference in the lives of children every day. No college degree is required, and the schedule follows the school calendar—making it an ideal fit for parents or family members who want rewarding work while still being available for their own family.

If you are interested, or know someone who would be a great fit, we encourage you to apply today!
