On Wednesday, November 12, five talented members of the Coventry High School (CHS) Band represented their school at the Connecticut Chapter of the American School Band Directors Association (ASBDA) Festival, held at Maloney High School in Meriden.
Participating students included:
- Maggie Coffey, junior – Tenor Saxophone
- Reese Coffey, sophomore – Trombone
- June Darcey, senior – Bass Clarinet
- Charlie Dunlap, senior – Flute
- Chloe Shearer, junior – Alto Saxophone
Students from across Connecticut came together for this one-day festival to rehearse collaboratively and perform in a culminating concert for family and friends that same evening.
Maggie, Reese, Charlie, and Chloe performed with the Symphonic Band under the direction of Dr. Richard Fields, Visiting Assistant Professor of Music Education at Queens College, CUNY.
June Darcey earned the distinct honor of performing in the Wind Ensemble, a prestigious group that features only one student per instrument part. The ensemble was conducted by Dr. Matt Doiron, Assistant Professor of Music Education at Western Connecticut State University.
Additionally, June Darcey and Reese Coffey were selected to perform in the premiere of the winning piece from the festival’s student composition competition, a recognition of both their musicianship and leadership among their peers.
