Coventry Public Schools Partners with CIRMA for
Annual Emergency Preparedness Exercise

Building on its commitment to student safety and inter-agency collaboration, Coventry Public Schools conducted its annual Table Top Exercise on Monday, May 4. The intensive session was held in partnership with the Connecticut Interlocal Risk Management Agency (CIRMA).

Approximately 22 key stakeholders gathered to participate in the drill, representing a comprehensive cross section of town leadership and emergency response. Participants included:

• School District Administration
• The Chief and Captain of the Coventry Police Department
• The Town Manager
• Town Safety and Risk Management Employees
• Emergency Management Personnel

Testing Procedures in Real-Time

The Table Top Exercise is a facilitated formal session where the group is presented with a simulated emergency scenario. Throughout the meeting, the participants were required to work through existing district procedures and municipal practices to address the evolving crisis.

The goal of the exercise is to identify strengths in current protocols and uncover potential gaps in communication or resource allocation before a real world incident occurs.

"Safety is not a static goal, it’s a constant process of refinement," said Dr. Petrone, Superintendent of Schools. "By sitting at the same table with our Town Manager, Police Chief, and the CIRMA expert, we ensure that our response is unified, rapid, and effective."

A Proactive Partnership

By partnering with CIRMA, the state’s leading provider of municipal risk management services, Coventry Public Schools leverages expert oversight to evaluate its preparedness. This year’s exercise focused on high level decision making, statutory requirements, and the seamless integration of school and town resources.

This annual exercise is a cornerstone of the district’s comprehensive safety plan, ensuring that when it comes to the well-being of Coventry’s students and staff, the community is prepared for any eventuality.
