Two Coventry Schools Recognized Among Connecticut’s Best by
U.S. News & World Report
Two Coventry Public Schools have been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as among the top-performing schools in Connecticut. G.H. Robertson Intermediate School (GHR) ranked #140 out of 547 elementary schools, while Capt. Nathan Hale School (CNH) ranked #52 out of 284 middle schools statewide.
Schools were ranked based on performance on standardized state assessments and how effectively they prepare students for success in high school. This recognition highlights Coventry’s ongoing academic achievements and the district’s steadfast commitment to providing an outstanding education for every child.
GHR (Grades 3–5) maintains a student–teacher ratio of approximately 11:1, allowing for personalized and supportive instruction. According to U.S. News & World Report, 68% of GHR students scored at or above proficiency in both math and reading. GHR previously earned national recognition in 2020 as a National Blue Ribbon School, honored by the Connecticut State Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Education for being an Exemplary High Performing School.
CNH (Grades 6–8) has a student–teacher ratio of approximately 10:1, enabling individualized learning experiences that support student growth. The U.S. News & World Report data show that 74% of CNH students scored at or above proficiency in reading, compared to the state average of 50%. CNH is also a New England League of Middle Schools (NELMS) Spotlight School, recognized for its strong instructional practices, collaboration, and deep understanding of adolescent learners.
