Dear Coventry Families,
This communication is being shared in the interest of transparency and to ensure families are aware of an upcoming training taking place on Thursday, March 5 from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. at G. H. Robertson School.
The Coventry Police Department is one of 22 towns in the Connecticut State Police’s Region 3 with specially trained officers assigned to a regional tactical unit, known as Capitol Region Emergency Services Team (CREST). This unit is trained to respond to active threats, barricaded subjects, hostage situations, and the service of high risk warrants. The team conducts training exercises two to three times per month to maintain readiness and coordination.
This will be the first time a CREST training session is held in a Coventry school building. Hosting this training at G. H. Robertson School allows participating officers the opportunity to become familiar with the layout of our facilities. Familiarity with school spaces is an important component of preparedness and coordinated response planning.
The training is carefully planned and conducted in a manner that does not cause damage to the facility. Activities will take place during evening hours when school is not in session. There is no cause for concern. Again, we are sharing this information to keep families informed and to provide advance notice of the activity taking place at the school that evening.
Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting school safety and preparedness.
Best,
David
