Coventry Public School Families:
I want to provide you with an update regarding the transportation challenges that have been impacting families.
As you are aware, the district contracted with a new bus company, DATTCO, to provide transportation for the students of Coventry. In an effort to maximize efficiencies, DATTCO did a comprehensive review of bus routes with the goal of balancing the number of riders on buses, along with reducing the average length of time that students are on the bus. Significant time was dedicated to
onboarding DATTCO and the bus routes were continually assessed during the past two months. Despite the efforts of the Transportation Committee and district staff, yesterday, DATTCO fell considerably short of fulfilling their promise to provide quality transportation services.
This afternoon I met with a senior manager at DATTCO to express our disappointment with the current state of their service. To address these concerns, DATTCO management immediately implemented the following: increasing practice runs of bus routes for drivers new to Coventry, reviewing bus routes and cross checking bus stops along with pick-up and drop-off times, and reviewing (again) district expectations and procedures with all drivers.
Although things improved slightly today, there is still much work that needs to be done to meet district expectations. However, I am encouraged by DATTCO’s quick response to our concerns along with a genuine commitment to improving services. As we work with DATTCO to get all issues resolved in a timely manner, should you have any transportation related concerns, please know you can
contact our Transportation Liaison, Christian Marcinczyk, at 860-742-7334 Ext.4371 or cmarcinczyk@coventryct.org.
Thank you for your patience as we work to provide safe, consistent, and quality transportation services for the students of Coventry.
Best,
David J. Petrone, Ed.D.
