Updates

CHS Musical Field Trip

This week, your child should be coming home with a permission slip for our whole school field trip to CHS on Wednesday, March 4th, to watch the CHS Musical, Annie! We will be leaving GHR by 9:00 am and returning around 11:30 am. In order for your child to attend, the PowerSchool Annual update must be completed, as well as all technology fees paid.

Health Room Updates

CGS and GHR want to clarify the process used to determine whether recess will be held indoors or outdoors due to weather conditions. Recess determinations are based on the Child Care Weather Watch Chart, which helps guide safe outdoor play for students.  When the temperature falls within the red zone, students will remain indoors and will not go outside for recess. If conditions fall within the yellow zone, a further determination will be made collaboratively between both CGS and GHR to decide the safest and most appropriate option for students. If temperatures fall within the yellow zone, several options may be considered, including temperature, wind chill, heat index, precipitation, and overall safety conditions of the playgrounds (such as icy or excessively wet playground surfaces). For example, if GHR’s playground is safe for the students, but CGS is not, GHR will go outside but CGS will not. These decisions are based on district guidelines and current weather data at the time of recess. Whenever possible, the goal is to allow students outdoor recess, as it provides important physical and mental health benefits. Students should be sent with proper outdoor attire each day to ensure the safety of the students. Moving forward, please know that all classes in the grade levels will be consistent with their recess. Thank you for your flexibility and support in helping keep our students safe.

Upcoming GHR Spring After-School Clubs

GHR is pleased to offer a variety of after-school student clubs this Spring! To help families plan ahead, we've compiled a list of all upcoming clubs on this flyer: GHR Spring Clubs.pdf  More details on clubs and all of the Google Forms to sign-up will be sent by email to families on Monday, February 9th. Many of the clubs are first come, first serve and may have limited space.

Valentines Day

On February 13th, students will have the opportunity to exchange valentine cards with classmates, which is optional. If your child is participating, please bring cards for each member of his/her class. Any candy or food items must be individually wrapped and will be sent home with students to enjoy at home, due to dietary and health concerns. If you need Valentine cards so that your child can participate, please email me (jderagon@coventryct.org) or our Social Worker, Laila DaSilva (ldasilva@coventryct.org) and we can provide you with some.
