Attendance
Every student, Every classroom, Every day. #attendtodayCT
Our school partnership with families is crucial to ensuring students get to school every day possible. School attendance is key to academic success. When students miss school, they miss out on learning and other important supports. If you’re having trouble getting to school, we want to help! Please call or email me anytime at jderagon@coventryct.org or (860) 742-7341.
At GHR, chronic absenteeism has tripled since pre- pandemic. We are working diligently this year to ensure students get to school by partnering with families and the community. Students can’t learn if they are not here. Please help us in these efforts. To reinforce the importance of school attendance at GHR, you will see an Attendance Matters section of our weekly School Messenger throughout the school year.
Smartwatches
Please help us keep you child engaged and focused throughout the school day. If your child wears a smartwatch, consider putting it in “school mode”. If you need to communicate with your child, please call the front office so that we can communicate the message. It is disruptive for the class environment for students to receive texting or other messages during the school day.
Internet Safety Training – On behalf of the US Attorney’s Office, District of Connecticut and the Department of Children and Families
Tweens and Teens spend many hours per day online chatting and interacting with friends and people who they may not know well and who may put them at risk. To educate parents, teachers and others, the US Attorney’s Office, District of Connecticut, in collaboration with the Department of Children and Families, are offering two FREE OF CHARGE online Internet Safety Trainings. This training will introduce parents, teachers and others to internet and cell phone applications and video game systems being used by the tweens/teens that could potentially put them at risk. Trainings will take place on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, and Wednesday, November 8, 2023, from 6 – 7:30 p.m. We encourage all districts to share this information with their teaching staff, as well as parents. Registration is required and available via the attached one-page flyer.
