GHR is Thankful for Books
Your child is coming home today with a new book! These books were funded thanks to our PTO, who generously donated Scholastic Dollars from our fall book fair. We are so grateful for their support in helping us get more books into the students’ hands! GHR is thankful for books, our PTO, and your support at home reading with your child! Enjoy time reading together!
CCMC PJ Day!
This year there is a new promotional video for PJ Day with some familiar faces from Coventry! If you wish to donate only, you can use the GHR page: https://give.connecticutchildrens.org/spike
Winter Reminders from the Health office!
It’s hard to believe we are quickly approaching WINTER! That means it is time to be prepared for chillier temperatures. There are a lot of fun things to do outside in winter, and our students love spending both recess and PE outdoors when they can. It is important that appropriate winter wear is sent in with your student(s) every day (warm jackets, hats, gloves, or mittens). Please also pack snow clothes on days when there is snow on the ground (add snow pants and boots to their warm weather gear!).
Some common winter troubles:
- Cold and Flu Season: As we approach flu season, please make sure to wash your hands often, avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth and of course please cover your coughs and sneezes.
**If your child develops a fever, please ensure that they are 24 hours fever free (without any fever reducing medication) before returning to school.
- Nosebleeds: If your child suffers from winter nosebleeds it may be from the dry air. Try using a cold air humidifier in the child’s room at night. Saline nose drops or petroleum jelly may help too. If severe, consult your pediatrician.
- Stomach Bugs: The stomach “bug” or “flu” is highly contagious and typically travels around the schools this time of year.
** We ask that students remain home for a minimum of 24 hours after their last episode of vomiting. They should also be able to tolerate normal meals prior to returning to school.
Spare Clothing: As we move through the school year, I kindly ask that you keep a set of seasonally appropriate spare clothes in your child’s backpack, cubby, or locker. Having their own clothing available ensures that , in the event of an accident or spill, your child has something comfortable and familiar to change into for the rest of the day and to wear home.
Upcoming- GHR Winter Clubs & Events
GHR is pleased to offer a variety of after-school student clubs this winter! To help families plan ahead, we've complied a list of all upcoming clubs, including details to help you and your student choose the best fit. All club details and sign-up forms will be sent to parents, via email, on December 2nd. Please see GHR Winter Clubs.pdf for an overview of all clubs.
