Para-educator of the Year

Paula Sandahl

Julie Klimkiewicz was nominated by the Coventry Public Schools for the Anne Marie Murphy Para-educator of the Year Award. This award recognizes the important role of para-educators in supporting students academically, socially, and emotionally. The award is named for Anne Marie Murphy who was a para-educator at Sandy Hook Elementary School and who lost her life
during the tragic events that unfolded at Sandy Hook in December 2012.

As one of four semi-finalists for the honor, Mrs. Klimkiewicz was recognized at the Connecticut State Department of Education Board Meeting on November 1, 2023. Mrs. Klimkiewicz has been an outstanding para-educator throughout her ten years working at the Hale
Early Education Center (HEEC). She is adept at supporting the classroom, running small groups, working 1 on 1 with students with the greatest needs, and taking the lead in classrooms when needed. This past school year, Mrs. Klimkiewicz was called on to run one of the HEEC classrooms for an extended period, providing tremendous care, consistency, and structure for her students. She was
most deserving of Coventry’s nomination and most deserving of being selected as a semi-finalist for the Anne Marie Murphy Para-educator of the Year Award.
