Parent Email - Early Morning Drop Off Question

Paula Sandahl

Coventry Families,

As I am sure you are well aware, Coventry, like many other towns in Connecticut, is still experiencing a bus driver shortage. In an effort to alleviate some of the burden this has created for families, the district will pilot an early morning drop off option beginning Monday, March 20, 2023. This will continue through the end of the school year.

On school days during this time, the Coventry Grammar School and the G. H. Robertson School will be open for 7:40 a.m. Parents will need to escort their child(ren) to the door, unless they are able to do so independently. The Capt. Nathan Hale School and Coventry High School will open at 6:50 a.m.

There will be appropriate school staff supervision available for parents to drop off their child at their child’s school on any morning after the noted time. During this pilot program, we will continually evaluate the number of students taking advantage of this option. As such, the need for this option to continue into the 2023-2024 school year will be reviewed prior to the start of school in August.

Please know, there will not be a change to the bus schedules, as buses will continue to run as usual and all classes will still begin at the regularly scheduled times at all schools.

If you have any questions regarding the information contained in this email, please feel free to contact your child’s school or my office directly.

Regards,
David
