Coventry Public Schools is proud to announce that the Coventry 2027 Teacher of the Year is Coventry Grammar School (CGS) Grade 2 Teacher Angela Puccia.

Ms. Puccia was one of four finalists selected for this honor. Principals were invited to submit application packets for staff members they believe met the criteria for this recognition. A district-wide committee was formed, which included a Board of Education member, parents, students, and staff. This committee scored the applications and interviewed each candidate. Based on the scores of the interviews and applications, Ms. Puccia was selected as Coventry’s Teacher of the Year for 2027. She has also submitted her application for Connecticut’s Teacher of the Year.

Principal Jennifer Hammer praised Angela Puccia as an exceptional educator whose student-centered approach, instructional excellence, and commitment to equity have made a lasting impact on Coventry Grammar School. She highlighted Angela's collaborative leadership, dedication to mentoring colleagues, and more than two decades of inspiring students to achieve academic success while building confidence and character. Hammer described her as a humble leader who embodies the highest standards of the teaching profession.

Other candidates included:

• Mikayla LeBlanc, G.H. Robertson School Grade 4 Teacher

• Julie Lee, Capt. Nathan Hale School Special Education Teacher

• Jen Faenza, Coventry High School Math Teacher

Each of the four participants received recognition at Convocation held on Monday, August 24. Additionally, Ms. Puccia will be honored at the Board of Education meeting held on August 27.
