Coventry Grammar School Celebrates Inaugural “Coins, Community, and Kindness” Walk-a-Thon, Raising Over $1,200 for School and Local Impact
Coventry Grammar School (CGS) launched a new tradition on Tuesday, October 6, hosting its inaugural “Coins, Community, and Kindness Walk-a-Thon.” The event brought together students and staff for a morning dedicated to health, school spirit, and civic responsibility.
The walk-a-thon directly supports the district’s Portrait of the Graduate framework by helping young learners build early awareness of their roles within both the school community and the broader Town of Coventry. Following two weeks of energetic student fundraising, CGS announced an impressive total of $1,291.64 raised across all grade levels:
• Kindergarten: $401.48
• Grade 1: $419.40
• Grade 2: $470.76
Demonstrating exceptional effort, every grade level met its goal by raising over $100 independently, successfully unlocking a $100 anonymous match donation for each grade.
Under the new initiative, funds raised each year are deposited into dedicated grade-level accounts. When students reach Grade 2, their final year at CGS, they will work together to decide how to allocate their accumulated funds. Their choices will include purchasing a lasting graduation gift for Coventry Grammar School and making a charitable donation to a local organization in Coventry or a neighboring town.
This year’s graduating Grade 2 class will lead the way as the first group to put their $470.76 toward a positive community project.
"This event is about much more than fundraising," said Linda Massucci, CGS reading teacher and event organizer. "It’s about helping our youngest students realize that no matter their age, their efforts can make a meaningful difference in the world around them."
Coventry Grammar School looks forward to continuing this annual tradition, instilling school pride, creating lifelong memories, and inspiring students to become active, contributing members of their community.
