Student Focus Groups

student focus group

Throughout the school year, Dr. David J. Petrone, Superintendent of Schools, hosts Student Focus Groups at each school, offering students an opportunity to share their thoughts, ideas, and experiences. Held five times a year, these informal gatherings include representatives from grade levels 1-12 and provide a welcoming environment for open conversation.

Students are encouraged to talk about anything on their minds, share their perspectives, or enjoy reading and discussing fun articles about current events. Each meeting also includes a snack!

Student Focus Groups are not a new initiative but have been a longstanding practice for Dr. Petrone. They provide him with a valuable opportunity to connect directly with students, hear their voices, and gain insight into their school experiences in a relaxed and enjoyable setting..

Nature Trail Bridge Reopens

CGS Bridge

Students and families at the Coventry Grammar School (CGS) can once again safely access the Nature Trail following the successful reconstruction of its footbridge. The project was made possible through a partnership between the CGS Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), which provided funding, and the Town of Coventry’s Protected Spaces Stewardship Committee, which coordinated the restoration. The restored footbridge provides current and future K–2 students with safe access to the trail, serving as an outdoor classroom for exploration and learning. This project highlights the value of community partnerships in supporting Nature Trail Bridge Reopens educational opportunities, preserving natural resources, and enhancing the school community for years to come.

NEASC Visits CHS

CHS Student Ambassadors

Coventry High School (CHS) hosted representatives from the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) on October 13 and 14 for its Collaborative Conference, an important milestone in the district’s ongoing school improvement and accreditation process. Building on last year’s comprehensive data-driven self-study, the visiting team toured schools, visited classrooms, reviewed documentation, and met with staff, administrators, students, and parents. The team will prepare a formal report highlighting the district’s strengths and providing recommendations to guide future improvement efforts. The feedback will help prepare CHS for its formal Decennial Accreditation visit in the fall of 2028.

Building Spirit Through Sports

CNH Sports

Each season, the Capt. Nathan Hale School (CNH) hosts its “Game of the Week,” giving students an opportunity to connect across grade levels, enjoy free play, and build school spirit before athletic events. Facilitated by classroom teachers, this free activity encourages student connections and a strong student section at games.

CNH teams have a tradition of athletic success, earning championships and recognition for sportsmanship. Our fall athletes are celebrated as they compete with pride and determination and encourage the community to cheer them on throughout the postseason!
