A Note from Mrs. Hammer
What Makes CGS Special
There is truly something magical about a K–2 school this time of year.
As we move closer to summer, our halls, classrooms, playgrounds, and cafeteria are filled with excitement, growing independence, BIG personalities, and so much joy. In a K–2 building, growth happens quickly and often in the smallest moments. A kindergarten student confidently reading a sentence on their own. A first grader learning how to navigate a disagreement with a friend. A second grader stepping up as a leader and role model for younger peers. These are the moments that make elementary schools such special places to be.
This week’s Field Day was one of those reminders of just how incredible the CGS community truly is. Watching students laugh, encourage one another, problem solve, persevere, and simply enjoy being kids was awesome. What stood out most to me, though, was the overwhelming sense of connection and community that filled the day.
Families jumped in wholeheartedly to support classrooms and stations. Teachers were able to fully participate alongside their students. Staff members stepped in wherever needed with a true “all hands on deck” mindset. Most importantly, our students were surrounded by adults who made the day feel FUN, safe, exciting, and memorable.
In my 24 years in education, I can honestly say it was one of the very best Field Days I have ever experienced.
At CGS, we often talk about the “magic” of K–2, and this week was a perfect example of it. The magic is in the relationships. The laughter. The teamwork. The confidence being built. The little moments that may seem small now, but are laying the foundation for who our students will become.
Thank you for continuing to partner with us in creating those moments for children every single day.
When sending an email communication to me, please also include Mrs. Morrison (kmorrison@coventryct.org).

Calling ALL Library Books

Please return ALL books by next Friday, June 5th!
Cafeteria Volunteer Shout
A HUGE thank you to all of the family volunteers who supported our cafeteria this year! Whether you were one of our amazing “regulars” or a helpful “pop in” volunteer, your time and support helped make lunch at CGS a positive experience for students and staff alike.
In a K–2 school, lunchtime is filled with opportunities for students to build independence, strengthen friendships, and practice important social skills. Your extra set of hands, encouragement, and flexibility helped keep things running smoothly while supporting a welcoming environment for all students.
We are so grateful for the partnership and care you brought to our school community throughout the year!

Ask Me About...
Below you’ll find 2-3 questions from your child’s grade-level team and specials’ teachers that connect directly to what they’ve been learning; both in academics, related arts, and in social-emotional learning lessons. These are great conversation starters to help your child share, reflect on their day/week, and celebrate their learning with you.
Ask your KINDERGARTNER…
What was your favorite Field Day activity?
Can you tap or chop the sounds in “chop” or “desk”?
If you have two bears, how many more do you need to make 10?
Ask your 1st GRADER…
What was the best part of Field Day for you?
How do you spell...public? comic? picnic? What is the rule when spelling multisyllabic words that end with the /k/ sound?
How does William use the powerful force of the wind in this week's new text, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind?
Ask your 2nd GRADER…
How many rows are in this array? How many columns?
What was your favorite Field Day activity? Why?
What is a word that has au or aw? Use it in a sentence with an adjective.
