A Note from Mrs. Hammer
Celebrating Growth: Spring Assessment Reports Coming Home
As we wrap up an incredible year of learning at CGS, our students recently completed their spring reading and math assessments. These assessments, Acadience Reading (Grades K-2) and i-Ready Math (Grades 1-2), help us understand the progress students have made and guide our planning for future instruction.
Next Friday, you will receive your child's Parent Reports. As you review them, we encourage you to focus not only on where your child is performing today, but also on how far they have come since the beginning of the school year.
At CGS, we believe growth matters. Every child starts the year in a different place, and we celebrate the progress each student has made through hard work, perseverance, and daily learning experiences.
What Should I Look For?
📚 Acadience Reading (Grades K-2)
The report includes information about your child's current reading skills as well as the growth they have demonstrated throughout the year.
When reviewing the report, remember:
• Current performance shows where your child is performing relative to end of year expectations.
• Growth shows how much progress your child has made over time.
• Both are important. A child may be meeting benchmarks and continuing to grow, or may still be working toward benchmarks while making tremendous progress.
➕ i-Ready Math (Grades 1-2)
The i-Ready report provides information about your child's mathematical strengths and areas for continued growth.
As you review the report, we encourage you to pay particular attention to growth in the areas that have been taught through our Eureka Math curriculum this year:
A Reminder About Assessments
No single assessment tells the whole story of a child. These reports are just one piece of a much larger picture that includes classroom work, teacher observations, daily participation, and the many ways students demonstrate learning throughout the year.
Most importantly, take a moment to celebrate your child's accomplishments. Whether the growth is reflected in reading, math, confidence, independence, perseverance, or a newfound love of learning, every step forward is worth recognizing.
We are incredibly proud of all our students and the progress they have made this year!
As always, if you have questions about your child's reports, please reach out to your child's teacher.
When sending an email communication to me, please also include Mrs. Morrison (kmorrison@coventryct.org).

Ask Me About...
Below you’ll find 2-3 questions from your child’s grade-level team and specials’ teachers that connect directly to what they’ve been learning; both in academics, related arts, and in social-emotional learning lessons. These are great conversation starters to help your child share, reflect on their day/week, and celebrate their learning with you.
Ask your KINDERGARTNER…
About our special visitors: our Coventry High School Graduates!
About what he or she wants to be when they grow up.
About how he or she is feeling about moving to first grade. What are some wonders or worries?
Ask your 1st GRADER…
What was your favorite Summer Send Off Day this week? (Extra Recess Day, Fairy Tale Day, Bubble Day, Mo Willems Day, or Video Day)
What was your favorite part of the Coventry High School graduates' visit?
Tamra has 15 coins. Willie has 7 coins. How many more coins does Tamra have than Willie?
Ask your 2nd GRADER…
What was one thing you liked about Wit and Wisdom?
How are you feeling about going on our GHR field trip? Any questions?
You learned a lot of things in math. What do you think you’ll use the most?
