🙋 Volunteer Opportunities
Parent Representation on School Based Committees
We are looking for 3-4 parents to serve on several of our school-based committees - Safety & Security, Family Engagement & Partnership, and School Improvement Planning. If you are interested in serving on a committee or would like more information about the commitment, please reach out to Mrs. Hammer!
Being Flippy, our CGS Mascot
The PTO is looking for volunteers to bring the magic of Flippy to life by wearing the mascot costume and greeting students during Spirit Day morning arrival! We’re also seeking volunteers to serve as Flippy’s guide. This is a joyful and rewarding volunteer opportunity that always lights up our students’ day. Volunteers can expect lots of waving, endless high‑fives, and plenty of hugs from our excited kiddos!
Cafeteria/Lunch Duty Volunteering
Parent/family volunteers are an important part of what makes Coventry Grammar School such a special place. Whether you're helping in a classroom or lunch room, supporting a special event, joining us on a field trip, or lending a hand behind the scenes, we are grateful for your partnership!
Annually, all volunteers must review our Volunteer Guidelines and Procedures and complete the electronic acknowledgment form. This only takes a few minutes and helps ensure a safe, positive, and consistent experience for everyone.
In future newsletters, this will be a place where volunteer opportunities are highlighted!
A Note from Mrs. Hammer
Partnering for Success: Staying Connected at CGS
It has truly been an honor getting to know your children and partnering with you to ensure a fantastic start to the 2026–27 school year! At Coventry Grammar School, we deeply value open and ongoing school-home communication. The insight and perspectives you share help us better understand and support each of our students.
Our Communication Philosophy
To help us maintain clear communication while supporting our school team, please keep these key guidelines in mind:
The Weekly Splash:
This Friday newsletter is your main source for predictable, streamlined updates about all things CGS. Previous weeks’ newsletters can always be accessed here for quick reference!
Teacher-First Contact:
For questions regarding your child’s daily routines, progress, or classroom/school experience, please connect with their teacher(s) first. They hold the most direct insight into your child's day-to-day interactions.
Seesaw Messages:
For quick check-ins during school hours, Seesaw is typically the fastest way to reach a classroom teacher directly. Teachers may not always have the ability to check email/voicemail once the school day begins.
Contacting Administration:
When sending an email to me, please CC Kate Morrison. Because I am frequently out and about in the building and in classrooms, Kate is often able to respond more quickly during the school day.
Honoring Personal & Family Time:
Our strong partnership relies on mutual respect - both during the school day and after hours. We invite you to help us protect our staff’s well-being by respecting their lives and families outside of school. Teachers will gladly respond within 24 hours during regular school days, but are encouraged to hold off on replying during evenings, weekends, and vacation days so they can focus on their own families.
Thank you for honoring these boundaries and partnering with us to build a positive, supportive CGS community!
When sending an email communication to me, please also include Mrs. Morrison (kmorrison@coventryct.org).

Friendly Reminders from the Main Office
* Transportation changes must be entered into PUP (Pick Up Patrol) by 2PM daily.
* If you have a change to your default transportation plan please contact the Main Office.
* Be sure to complete the Annual Forms Update in your parent PowerSchool account. Completion of these forms is required for students to attend scheduled field trips. These forms also are essential in that they include updating emergency contact information and ensure all information we have is accurate.
* If you’re sending in money with your child for any reason, please be sure to send it in a sealed and labeled envelope, labeled with your child’s name and what the payment is for (ie: lunch, PTO mums fundraiser, etc.)
* All students have snack time scheduled within their day. Please be sure to send your child with a snack daily - preferably separate from their lunch.
CGS Summer Math
We hope your family had a wonderful summer! As we gear up for a great school year, we want to remind students to turn in any math work completed over the summer break.
Whether your child worked on the Commissioner's Summer Math Challenge or the Summer Math Activities on our school web page, there are two quick and easy ways to submit their work:
Paper Packet:
Students can bring their completed Commissioner's Summer Math packet directly to school and turn it in to their teacher.
Google Form:
Students or parents can log completed summer math activities online using our Google Form.
Special prizes await students in September to celebrate their math thinking and hard work over the summer!
Thank you for supporting your child's learning journey!
