Virtual Author Visit

On Friday, September 11th, we will be hosting a virtual author visit from Nora Baskin, the author of Nine, Ten: A September 11 Story for students in Grades 4-5. This book takes a close look at the days leading up to the tragic events of September 11, 2001, and how that day impacted the lives of middle schoolers told from their four different perspectives. This book was selected as an Intermediate (Grades 4-6) Nutmeg book in 2019. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to jderagon@coventryct.org.

Free Breakfast this year!

Along with a great education, Coventry is proud to provide healthy and delicious meals each day to support their learning and growth. Breakfast and lunch are offered daily at every school. Students can choose from hot and cold entrées, fresh fruits, vegetables, juice, and milk. To make a complete meal, students must select at least three items, including one fruit or vegetable. A variety of à la carte healthy food Smart snacks—such as baked chips, water, juice, and ice cream—are also available for purchase. Snacks can be purchased with cash or must have a positive account balance. Milk is included with meals or may be purchased separately for $0.75. For this school year 26-27 - Breakfast for all at NO COST, reduced eligibility students have no cost for lunch.

To make meal payments simple, we offer the free School Café Family Hub Mobile app and website (family.schoolcafe.com). With School Café, you can:

  • Add money instantly to your child’s account

  • View purchases and set spending limits

  • Receive low-balance alerts

  • Transfer funds between students

Cash and checks are always accepted as well, remaining change is automatically added to the student’s account.

Cardboard Boat Race

FREE STEM EVENT!  Start building your cardboard boat to compete September 12th at Patriot’s Park. Free Registration begins at 9am, races 10am. STEM activities provided by CT science teachers association, society of women engineers, and Invention Convention. Come compete, volunteer, or to just cheer on your favorite boat! On behalf of the Office of the Treasurer – Treasurer’s Dream Big! Competition

Treasurer Erick Russell, Trustee of the Connecticut Higher Education Trust (CHET), has announced that the 2026 CHET Dream Big! Competition will run from August 19, 2026, through November 6, 2026. The competition is open to all Connecticut residents in grades K-12. As part of the Dream Big! Competition, students in grades K-12 submit essays, videos, and artwork based on a question about their dreams or how they can help their communities. This year, $350,000 in prizes will be awarded as CHET 529 College Savings Plan Account contributions, along with technology prizes to Connecticut schools. Three students will each be awarded $20,000 prizes, 24 will each be awarded $5,000 prizes, and 240 will each be awarded $500 prizes. Picture Day

We are excited to use a new photography vendor this year, Ted Morton Photography. No need to fill out any forms before, students will come home with a QR code with ways to order. GHR flyer fall 26.jpg 

From Last Week

Open House- 9/23/26  5:30-7:30 PM

Open House is an informative event organized to provide a brief orientation to your child’s classroom routine and grade level curriculum. This evening is a great time to ask questions and build positive home-school relationships.  Parking assistance will be provided to support this well-attended event. You are welcome to come anytime between 5:30 and 7:30 pm. Additionally, the Scholastic Book Fair will be in the gym.
