K-5 Literacy Night

Coventry Public Schools Celebrates Success of K–5 Literacy Night

Coventry Grammar School (CGS) and G.H. Robertson School (GHR) hosted a successful K–5 Literacy Night on October 21 at CGS, bringing students and families together for an evening filled with reading, creativity, music, and engaging literacy activities.

The family-friendly event offered a variety of interactive stations designed to inspire a love of reading and strengthen connections between home and school. Students and their families participated in literacy games, read to therapy dogs, and enjoyed quiet reading time under the stars. Families also explored the school’s Wit & Wisdom Program artwork through activities that encouraged curiosity, observation, and creative thinking.

The evening featured music and singing, opportunities to take photos with beloved storybook characters Winnie-the-Pooh and the Cat in the Hat, and a popular book giveaway and raffle that helped put books directly into the hands of young readers.

Parents shared enthusiastic feedback about the event, expressing how much they enjoyed the opportunity to participate in literacy activities alongside their children. The strong family turnout and excitement throughout the evening highlighted the importance of making reading an enjoyable, shared experience.

The success of Literacy Night reflects the dedication and collaboration of the K-3 Literacy Committee, whose thoughtful planning and hard work created a welcoming environment where students and families could celebrate literacy together.
